Aha.. I'm successfully consolidate my old server to new VMware ESX 3.5 server. Instead I'm running all services on single server (celeron 1.7Ghz) previously, now I manage to isolate different services (squid, firewall, apache, mysql & etc) running on different virtual machines (VM). How many VM I want to create after this really depend on how many resources still available on my dual core machine. As for now, within dual core 2x 2100Mhz & 3GB of memory I supposedly can have about 8 to 10 VM without any issue. I might add another VM for Windows server after this. Why?. It's because I dont have any knowledge on windows server :)
Gaining Benefit from Server Consolidation (VMware ESX 3.5) - Instead of buying 8 to 10 physical machines, I can have it on single ESX machine. - Reduce power cosuming & room space usage for physical server. - No more server under utilized. - Multiple servers, services, goal on single machine. p/s : I always want to compete with my Sifu bout who gonna be the first person running ESX 3.5 and I have to admit, he's the first one who running it on top of his intel celeron 420 Conroe single core machine. But, I'm also the first one successfully running ESX inside AMD Athlon64 AM2 X2 Brisbane :) The 1st VM of course, Noguix Cluster Edition... ESX 3.5 running on AMD machine...Still under utilize.. Current VM running with good performance health state.. The CPU still not heavy duty but memory? athlon_crazy 8082008 |
